The Northern Hard'nuts is a cold and harsh conference unifying the northern teams of the DBL, renowned for their brutal attitude to the game, there are few teams who can match their physical prowess. The conference is also known for their brutal fans, being on the sidelines during freezing gales and chaotic hail storms has hardened them and turned them into complete fanatics. The conference teams compete for the regional trophy known as the Blizzard Cup to which the Marienberg Mariners have held the trophy for two seasons.

The Blizzard Cup, was first known as the Northern Cup and was first won by a mighty Chaos team known as the Arctic Apocalyptics. Upon receiving their trophy the team celebrated as any would, and like any other good Chaos team were off to fight in Archaon's cause the next day (multi-talented these Chaos Warriors). But being a bit simple minded the Apocalyptics left the Northern Cup at their favourite drinking hole and amidst the drinking forgot to ever collect it - and or they never returned from the battlefield... Either way the Northern Cup had become a dusty trophy on the taverns shelves and forgotten about, the DBL launched an investigation to find the trophy to no avail and created a new temporary version until the original could be found. Many years later a match between the Skaeling Steelers and the Hashut Hammers in the North had to be called off due to a horrendous Blizzard whiting out the pitch and making visibility effectively zero. Both teams and fans decided to settle their differences from their long journeys and visit the nearest tavern, the star player of the Steelers, Bjorn Bnorksson asked for the biggest cup the barmen could fill with beer possible, and was presented with the Northern Cup. Bjorn downed the frothy ale in one large gulp, feeling impressed, his comrades and teammates stared in awe - not at his drinking feat, but that the Northern Cup had been found. From that day forth the DBL named the Northern Cup the 'Blizzard Cup' and the name has stood too this day - the Steelers then went onto win the cup that year, a fitting end for a lucky discovery.
